Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday inaugurated the first academic session of the MBBS course of Diphu Medical College and Hospital at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district and said it would bring about unprecedented changes in the overall health care scenario in the hill districts of the state.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched two schemes to provide monetary assistance to college students and literary bodies of the state on Monday.

The schemes are named Pragyan Bharati and Bhasha Gourab. Under Pragyan Bharati scheme, 3,26,046 college students were given Rs 1,500 each for purchasing textbooks. A total of Rs 161 crore was reimbursed for the free admission of 4 lakh eligible students. 

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the academic programme of Majuli University of Culture at Bongaon, Majuli on Wednesday.

MP Pradan Baruah, DAC CEC Shri Madhab Deori, Padma Shri awardee Gopiram Bargayn Burabhakat, Satradhikar Shri Janardan Dev Goswami and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes to the 106 students of the university and urged them to study hard and work towards spreading the rich cultural- spiritual heritage of the river island district.
